Weight Management and Nutrition

Weight loss

Always a sensitive and topical subject weight management is something everyone is interested in at some point in their lives.

If you have tried every new diet over the years or successfully lost weight only to see it creep back on again, sometimes higher than it was before, it is time to make friends with food and start working with your body.

I don't believe in fad diets, banning certain foods and definitely don't believe that feeling hungry all the time is a good thing!

It is possible to loose fat safely and effectively and keep it off long term without having to suffer.

The key to successfully and permanently changing your weight is to loose fat and increase your lean muscle mass. Without getting too technical, a body made up of lean muscle with a high basal metabolic rate uses more calories (even at rest or when you are asleep) than a body that is mostly fat.

In order to create lean muscle you have to exercise, resistance training will build muscle quality and under my guidance you will be able to increase the amount of lean muscle in your body while toning and shaping.

Yes you can alter you metabolism, it is not something set in stone at birth, but it is the rate at which your body burns calories on a daily basis and the composition of your body combined with the exercise you do, can and will positively affect this.

The speed at which you burn off fat can be increased with a range of cardio vascular work and I will create a program especially for you, within your capabilities, that will enable you to speed up the process of shifting that unwanted weight forever.

I am sure that you do not need me to tell you that being overweight can have major effects on your body and mind, but just in case, being overweight can lead to the following:

  • Increased risk of coronary heart disease leading to heart attacks
  • Raised blood pressure
  • Hardening of the arteries which increases the risk of strokes
  • Increased risk of diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Increased pressure on joints leading to pain
  • Feeling low, unhappy and discontented
  • Loss of energy

But do not sit down and cry, exercise has been proven to help with all of the above, so if you want to positively change your health and the way you feel, call me today to take the first step towards a new fitter, slimmer, healthier, more energetic you.

Weight gain

If you need to gain weight don't despair!

Regaining weight safely and sensibly after an illness or increasing your muscle mass, can be done in an enjoyable and controlled way that will leave you feeling fitter, more energised and healthier than ever.

I can help you with an organised program of eating the right foods to build your body up sensibly, combined with exercises to improve your strength, muscle tone, energy levels and general feeling of well being.

Nutrition

Getting the correct nutrition is vital for a healthy body and eating the right things can increase your energy and wellbeing from the day you start.

Understanding all the different nutrients, what is vital for you, the latest fads and whether to believe the latest media reports of what is good or bad for you today, even though it wasn't yesterday, is not easy.

Sit down with me for an hour and we can study and revise your nutritional intake. We can establish what healthy eating really is, what minor adjustments you could make to what you eat, to improve your daily intake and set you some goals to work towards over the next few weeks.

We can discuss all the major food groups, the best ways of getting the right vitamins, minerals and macro nutrients for you and ways to alter what you eat in order to loose fat, gain muscle, increase your energy and reduce your risk of some major illnesses.

I can work with you to create a basic healthy eating plan or we can spend time looking in close detail at all the components of your diet and nutritional needs, even visiting a supermarket to allow you to gain a better understanding of what is really in that packet and what 90% fat free actually means.

Did you know that doing the majority of your food shopping on the aisle that runs around the outside of the supermarket is usually the healthiest option? All the fresh food items, fruit, vegetables, fresh dairy, meat, fish and bread are usually at the outside edge of the store. Packets of biscuits, crisps and cakes are normally in the middle!
